This Generation 1 wheel bearing set is designed for on-vehicle replacement and minimises the amount of component removal required. It works with 18 ton and 22 ton hydraulic cylinders and is intended for vehicles using the first-generation style bearing, where the wheel flange is pressed out first, followed by removal of the retaining circlip if fitted. The wheel bearing can then be extracted, the new bearing and circlip installed, and finally the wheel flange pressed back into place.
By allowing the bearing to be replaced directly on the vehicle, this system avoids the struggle with seized components and reduces the risk of damage from excessive dismantling. In most cases there is no need to remove ABS sensors, which are easily damaged, adding further time and cost savings. It saves significant time in the workshop by eliminating the need for a press and avoiding unnecessary removal of suspension and steering parts.
A universal bridge plate (part no. 91034505) is required and is shared across all wheel bearing kits, with different legs bolted to it as needed. Only one bridge plate is necessary to cover all applications.
